Overview
What text to decimal means
A text to decimal conversion turns each character into its numeric code, then writes that code in base-10.
This is useful when you need to inspect how text is stored, debug encodings, or embed character values in a format that only accepts decimal digits. The converter processes one character at a time and separates results with spaces so multi-character strings stay readable.
Guide
How to convert text to decimal
- 1
Start with the first character
Work left to right through the string. Each character is converted independently, so “Hi” becomes two numeric values rather than one combined number.
- 2
Find its Unicode code point
Common Latin characters use the same numbers as classic ASCII — for example H is 72 and i is 105. Accented letters, symbols, and emoji use larger code points.
- 3
Rewrite the code in decimal
Express that integer in base-10. No fixed width is required for decimal output.
- 4
Repeat and separate with spaces
Continue for every remaining character. Space-separated output makes it obvious where one character ends and the next begins.
Example
Worked example
Take the text sample Hi. Walking through the conversion:
- 'H' → code point 72 → Dec 72
- 'i' → code point 105 → Dec 105

Basics
About these bases
charsText
Text is a sequence of characters. Each character has a numeric code point that can be encoded into any numeric base.
This converter uses Unicode code points (ASCII for common English characters). Multi-character strings are converted character by character, with numeric values separated by spaces.

base-10Decimal
Decimal is base-10, the everyday number system using digits 0–9.
Decimal is the bridge humans usually use when reasoning about other bases. Converting through decimal is a reliable mental model even when a tool does the work for you.

Practice
When to use a text → decimal converter
Debugging & inspection
Quickly check how a text value looks when rewritten as decimal without opening a calculator or REPL.
Learning place value
See the same quantity side by side in two alphabets — a concrete way to internalize powers of two, eight, ten, or sixteen.
Protocol & homework checks
Verify dumps, worksheet answers, or configuration values before you paste them into code or documentation.
Private, offline work
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, which keeps keys, snippets, and sample data on your device.
Notes
Tips and common pitfalls
- Multi-character text is converted per character. A whole word is not treated as a single giant integer.
- Invalid digits stop the conversion with a clear error instead of silently skipping characters.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- Does text to decimal change the value?
- For text conversions, each character’s code point is preserved — only the written form of that code changes. The characters themselves are recovered when you convert back.
- Is my input uploaded?
- No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server.
- How should I format multi-value input?
- Type ordinary text. Each character becomes its own numeric value in the output, separated by spaces.
- What digits are valid in text?
- Text accepts Unicode code points.
